Dr Zhang Qi, MD
- Responsible for Traditional and Complementary Medicine at the World Health Organisation headquarters in Geneva
- Led the integration of traditional Chinese Medicine into the national health system for the government of China
- Former vice-president of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences (CACMS)
Dr Zhang Qi is the head of Traditional and Complementary Medicine Unit (TCM) in the Department of Service Delivery and Safety (SDS), at the headquarters of World Health Organization(WHO) in Geneva, Switzerland.
He studied in both conventional medicine and traditional medicine. He used to be a doctor, researcher and governmental official responsible for traditional medicine in China. He led the work of integration of traditional medicine services into national healthcare system in the department of healthcare services and later headed the department of international cooperation, State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SATCM), China.
Dr Qi used to be the vice president of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences (CACMS), which is the national research institution for traditional Chinese medicine in China, and lead the supervision on health care services and management in the five hospitals affiliated to the academy. He joined WHO in January 2009 and became the coordinator of traditional and complementary medicine unit in 2010.
