Prof. Dr. med. Arndt Büssing is physician and professor for Quality of Life, Spirituality and Coping at the Chair of Medical Theory, Anthroposphic and Integrative Medicine of the University of Witten/Herdecke.
After studying medicine at RWTH Aachen and doing his recidency at the Department for Medical Immunology at the RWTH Aachen University Clinic, he was the head of Department for Applied Immunolgy in Cancer Research at the Gemeinschaftskrankenhaus (Community Hospital) in Herdecke from 1995 to 2005.
Since 2005 Prof. Büssing has worked at the Chair of Medical Theory and Complementary Medicine of the University of Witten/Herdecke. He habilitated at the University of Witten/Herdecke in 2001, was appointed as adjunct professor in 2007, and has been a university professor of the University of Witten/Herdecke since 2010.
Prof. Büssing’s current research interest is focused on the significance of spirituality as a resource for coping with chronic disease as well as of non-pharmacological intervention for the chronically ill (e.g. yoga, eurythmy therapy, meditation). Arndt Büssing is co-editor of the journal Deutsche Zeitschrift für Onkologie, editor/advisory board member of the journals Forschende Komplementärmedizin; Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine; Complementary Therapies in Medicine; Integrative Medicine; Spiritual Care, and division editor for the section „Health and Psychology of Religion“ of the journal Religions.
