
Lucia Thornton, RN
- Past-president of the American Holistic Nurses Association
- Helped create the United States’ Board Certification for Holistic Nursing

Dr. Thornton is a past-president of the American Holistic Nurses Association and has been involved in nursing and holistic healing for over 35 years. She has worked in various clinical settings including emergency and trauma, intensive care, hospice, and research and development and has taught holistic nursing throughout the United Sates.
Lucia Thornton helped develop one of the first inpatient hospice homes in the United States and was instrumental in creating the process of Board Certification for Holistic Nursing in the United States. For the past 15 years Lucia Thornton has been involved with developing seminars for hospitals and communities that focus on optimal health and wellness and creating healing environments. Her work in transforming hospitals and organizations into “healing and healthy environments” has received national, state and local recognition.
Dr. Thornton recently authored the book Whole Person Caring: An Interprofessional Model for Healing and Wellness. She is a member of the board of directors for the Integrative Health Policy Consortium (IHPC) and the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine (AIHM).
